Emma’s book choice

This book, entitled ‘Sewing - A beginner’s step-by-step guide to stitching by hand and machine’ by Charlotte Gerlings is a great accompaniment to all my courses and for anyone starting to learn to sew. It covers everything from the basics - descriptions of tools and equipment for sewing, what all the information on the back of a paper pattern envelope means, basic hand stitches, and basic seams, sewing machine use and troubleshooting. It even includes some simple, and fun projects to make. I have included an image of it here as an affiliated link, so just click and order a copy for you or a friend or loved one. Purchase a copy now by clicking on the picture, and bring it to your lesson or class!

I give it five stars. * * * * *

For more experienced beginners, I strongly recommend Simplicity’s Simply the Best Sewing Book for ease of use, illustrations and the friendly style. Its like having your own tutor by your side! I particularly like the patternless projects at the end of the book. The organisation is just like going through one of my beginners courses, from getting to grips with the information on the pattern envelope, to stitching and finishing seams, its all clearly laid out in this fascinating and friendly book to accompany any garment-making sessions! Purchase a copy now by clicking on the picture and bring it to your lesson or clas!

I give it ***** stars.
