Sewing with the little ones!
The Sewing Machine Song is a lovely tune for preschoolers! Infact, there are quite alot of songs and nursery rhymes about the joy of sewing. Remember '“Wind the Bobbin up, Wind the Bobbin up, Pull, Pull, Clap, Clap, Clap!” I do, when I took my then baby son to playgroups. He’s older now, but he’s never forgotten the fine motor co-ordination skills I taught him, by playing sewing games with him - like sewing buttons onto a board, or stitches onto some felt. Children love these types of activities. We can support our children as parents and carers by being there to help them and this will improve their inner belief that they are capable little human beings. Sewing is such a useful life skill, but the motor skills, and hand eye co-ordination skills need to be taught early, from the age of three years. We can promote this by playing our children classical music while engaging in this type of creative play.
We are about to launch monthly fun and crafty "play sessions” for preschoolers and their parents. Print out or show the picture below for a free Mini Bobbins session for your child aged 3-5.
Each session lasts 1 hour for singing, sewing and learning about fabric and how it is made and where it comes from.
